Using Conscious Breathing Tools In Daily Life

Dear Friends,
a couple of days ago I shared an article called “Understanding The Alchemy Of Conscious Breathing”. In this piece I explained details about the conscious inner transformation process we can create for ourselves, when we are aware how to navigate our own breath. So today I would like to share some more tools how to apply breathing to your personal practice.

A highly potent energy field to work with is the essence of the Ascended Master Saint Germain. Ascended Master Saint Germanin is the chohan of the sevens divine ray – the violet ray of transformation. He is the master alchemist of the sacred inner fire, who carries the flame of the violet fire for us. This inner fire provides us with the ability to transform, transmute, elevate and shift every emotional pattern inside of us, into higher vibration and devotion to express divine purity.
When we look at the power of transformation that the inner fire of alchemy is holding for us, than it also makes sense to acknowledge how our breathing is the key to master this alchemical process. As we change layer by layer, and transform our momentary state of being into a higher vibrating version of our TRUE SELF, we manifest more and more light into our physical body and become the shining beings outside, that we always have been by soul. Use the prayers below to integrate a higher awareness in your breathing rhythm and physical body.

Violet Flame Prayer
I AM a being of violet fire
I AM the purity God desires.

In general there is not “one correct way” of breathing. There are particular breathing techniques for yoga, for power walking, for swimming, a proper breathing for martial arts, a technique for taichi, playing the trumpet requires different breathing than singing does, and so on. You get my point! Anyway, here are four techniques you can give a try – in case you don’t have a favorite version jet!

#1: for practice in a private environment

  • Sit cross-legged in a quiet room or contained space.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Using your thumb, cover up your right nostril, and breathe deeply through your left nostril for a count of 6.
  • Pause for a count of 2.
  • Remove your thumb, and cover your left nostril with your forefinger, and exhale completely through your right nostril for a count of 6. Repeat 10 to 15 times.

#2: for practice in public spaces

  • Close your eyes if you feel safe to do so.
  • Inhale through your nose evenly and deeply for a count of 8.
  • Pause for a count of 3.
  • Exhale completely through your nose for a count of 8.
  • Pause for a count of 3.
  • Repeat 10 to 15 times.

#3: to help you fall asleep

  • Keeping your eyes closed, and lying flat on your back in bed, deeply inhale through your nose for a count of 6.
  • Pause for a count of 3.
  • Slowly exhale completely through your nose for a count of 6.
  • Pause for a count of 3.
  • Deeply inhale through your nose for a count of 8.
  • Pause for a count of 3.
  • Exhale completely through your nose for a count of 8.
  • Repeat steps, each time increasing the count by two until you stretch your breath out for as many counts as you can—try to get to 12! Once you’ve done this, repeat 10 times.

    #4: for deep relaxation

    For even deeper relaxation while the mind is still very active – try focusing on an affirmation during your inhales and exhales. For example you can think the word “I” on your inhale and “AM” , can, do, feel, (what ever works for your situation – be creative!!) …. on your exhale….. Keep doing that for 3-5minutes and deeper layer can open from inside.

    Once your mind has calmed down you can also switch your awareness to different body parts and their gentle, natural movement that comes with breathing in and breathing out. That will allow the awareness you are creating to sink even deeper into your daily life expressions.

Dear Friends,
the intense energetic movement that the recent New Moon in Cancer with total solar eclipse has unleashed into the awakening process of the human collective is slowly fading and we are more and more able to take in the details for what has shifted for us all individually. The perfect time to regain clarity and direction from our soul’s guidance. Quite a while ago I shared a post called awakening the Inner Alchemist in which I talked about the Ascended Master Saint Germain and the violet flame of conscious transformation, he is providing as a divine quality. This flame is the representation of our capability to change and transform our momentary state of being – into a higher vibrating version of our TRUE SELF), and this fire needs your passionate breathing to stay alive and hungry.
To be more specific: the intensity in which the fire of transformation inside you is burning – depends on your conscious understanding and conscious use of your breath. The thump rule is, the deeper we dive into studying and understanding the magical alchemy that our breath provides, the more alive blissful and inter-connected we feel in our daily life. Simply breathing in and out LIFE ITSELF.

Allow me to explain a bit more about the Alchemy of Breathing. When we decide to go thru the materialization process of becoming human beings, we are in our natural state of pure light and divine bliss. Our divine spirit than spirals down true the different layer of density, what we call dimensions, and begin to form a physical body within the body of our future mother. In co-creation of existence on Planet Earth, this physical manifestation is build from the Elementscalled the platonic solids.  And here lays the surprise and most important secret…. while we are creating our bodies, and our mothers feel matter growing… all that we feel is the stat of divinely blissful, warm water.
So WATER is the first element we materialize on the planet! And that goes further… ever if we are born and our doctor is hitting our but… we still only feel water…. UNTIL we make the first conscious decision on planet earth – to take the first deep BREATH! In the millisecond we do so, it all comes together as one. Our Breath activates our awareness of being a spiritual being expressed in a physical manifestation – our body awareness and sensory self kick in, the EARTH element is born… and that activates the FIRE of LIFE and SURVIVAL….     the same fire you use when you breath in awareness, the violet flame of transformation and ascension, into your everyday life here and now.
That is the true and infinite power of you SIMPLE BREATHING. And it all happens under the supervision of the HOLY SPIRIT within. Remember to be kind and practice self-compassion, what ever is going on!!

Based on this bigger picture I think it is not hard to understand, that practicing conscious breathing helps improve our well being on a physical level. Which includes pain and symptom release for high blood pressure, migraines, headaches, anxiety, stress, chronic pain, depression, asthma, insomnia, nervousness, self-doubt, concentration loss, muscular tension, bad sleep, and that its a boost for the immune system. But also on a spiritual level we can boost our evolution, by connecting the dots in our mind – when we are in mindful breathing exercise.
Becoming aware of the way we breathe, helps us reconnect to our inner place of peace, in the most challenging situations of everyday life!! Such a simple, build in tool, and such a divine abundance of use for the collective awakening of humanity! So call on the Master Saint Germain and the violet flame for your next conscious step in your personal evolution! You can make it as easy as repeating the prayers below, while reading the text above over and over (make it 3, 7 or 9 or 13 repetitions)!! And try deep breathing the next time you find yourself reaching for a pain reliever, you are feeling stressed out, are depressed, have problems with your sleep or need a momentary extra boost of physical power!

Choosing Leadership That Brings The Golden Age Of Aquarius

over the last few month I shared with you several articles about the divine / hermetic laws, that have a big saying in how our life on earth works out. I also talked about the existing example, that we have on earth right now, in the Native American leadership guidelines – fit for the Golden Age of Aquarius.
In the collective awareness, recently there is a bigger change occurring. We could watch the awakening frequencies spread their impact several times in a way, that again and again opened the doors to help ourselves to a pineal gland awakening, a chance that thousands of individuals took. And now we are at the edge again to decide about our collective future, by internally clearing what authentic leadership, true service and the manifestation of the Golden Age mean to us. To vastly improve your country and truly make it great again, start by choosing a better leader. Do not let the media or the establishment make you pick from the people they choose, but instead choose from those they do not pick. Pick a leader from among the people who is heart-driven, one who identifies with the common man on the street and understands what the country needs on every level. Do not pick a leader who is only money-driven and does not understand or identify with the common man, but only what corporations need on every level.
Pick a peacemaker. One who unites, not divides. A cultured leader who supports the arts and true freedom of speech, not censorship. Pick a leader who will not only bail out banks and airlines, but also families from losing their homes — or jobs due to their companies moving to other countries. Pick a leader who will fund schools, not limit spending on education and allow libraries to close. Pick a leader who chooses diplomacy over war. An honest broker in foreign relations. A leader with integrity, one who says what they mean, keeps their word and does not lie to their people. Pick a leader who is strong and confident, yet humble. Intelligent, but not sly. A leader who encourages diversity, not racism. One who understands the needs of the farmer, the teacher, the doctor, and the environmentalist — not only the banker, the oil tycoon, the weapons developer, or the insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyist.

Pick a leader who will keep jobs in your country by offering companies incentives to hire only within their borders, not one who allows corporations to outsource jobs for cheaper labor when there is a national employment crisis. Choose a leader who will invest in building bridges, not walls. Books, not weapons. Morality, not corruption. Intellectualism and wisdom, not ignorance. Stability, not fear and terror. Peace, not chaos. Love, not hate. Convergence, not segregation. Tolerance, not discrimination. Fairness, not hypocrisy. Substance, not superficiality. Character, not immaturity. Transparency, not secrecy. Justice, not lawlessness. Environmental improvement and preservation, not destruction. Truth, not lies.

Most importantly, a great leader must serve the best interests of the people first, not those of multinational corporations. Human life should never be sacrificed for monetary profit. There are no exceptions. In addition, a leader should always be open to criticism, not silencing dissent. Any leader who does not tolerate criticism from the public is afraid of their dirty hands to be revealed under heavy light. And such a leader is dangerous, because they only feel secure in the darkness. We become “Light Body Beings”

the dance goes on and on, while more intense and high frequency energies are filling the collective human consciousness with inputs of pure divine light. But not only our minds are about to take another quantum leap in evolution, also our physical bodies are preparing to shift the DNA. We are changing from 11 to 12 Strand DNA, so we can hold the light and walk as Divine Beings in our Light Bodies on Planet Earth. Harvard Study Unveils What Meditation Literally Does To The Brain

I totally love it when we have a confirmation by science over the effect of spiritual experiences, so many people share on the planet. The past shows, that it is easier for the human collective to believe in something, when it first found acceptance on a scientific level. Numerous studies have indicated the many physiological benefits of meditation, and the latest one comes from Harvard University. An eight week study conducted by Harvard researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) determined that meditation literally rebuilds the brains grey matter in just eight weeks. It’s the very first study to document that meditation produces changes over time in the brain’s grey matter. (1)

“Although the practice of meditation is associated with a sense of peacefulness and physical relaxation, practitioners have long claimed that meditation also provides cognitive and psychological benefits that persist throughout the day. This study demonstrates that changes in brain structure may underlie some of these reported improvements and that people are not just feeling better because they are spending time relaxing.
Sara Lazar of the MGH Psychiatric Neuroimaging Research Program and a Harvard Medical School Instructor in Psychology. The study involved taking magnetic resonance images (MRI) of the brain’s of 16 study participants two weeks prior to participating in the study. MRI images of the participants were also taken after the study was completed.

“The analysis of MR images, which focused on areas where meditation-associated differences were seen in earlier studies, found increased grey-matter density in the hippocampus, known to be important for learning and memory, and in structures associated with self-awareness, compassion and introspection.” 6For the study, participants engaged in meditation practices every day for approximately 30 minutes. These practices included focusing on audio recordings for guided meditation, non-judgmental awareness of sensations, feelings and state of mind.
“It is fascinating to see the brain’s plasticity and that, by practicing meditation, we can play an active role in changing the brain and can increase our well-being and quality of life. Other studies in different patient populations have shown that meditation can make significant improvements in a variety of symptoms, and we are now investigating the underlying mechanisms in the brain that facilitate this change.”

How To Meditate

A common misconception about meditation is that you have to sit a certain way or do something in particular to achieve the various benefits that it can provide. All you have to do is place yourself in a position that is most comfortable to you. It could be sitting cross legged, lying down in a bed, sitting on a couch etc, it’s your choice.
Another common misconception about meditation is that you have to “try” to empty your mind. One important factor I enjoyed reading from the study mentioned above is that participants were engaged in “non-judgmental awareness of sensations, feelings and state of mind.”  When meditating, you shouldn’t try to “empty” your mind. Instead, try to let your thoughts, feelings and whatever emotions you are feeling at the time flow. Don’t judge them, just let them come and go and be at peace with it.

I also believe that meditation is a state of being/mind more than anything else. I feel that one does not have to sit down for half an hour and “meditate” so to speak in order to reap the benefits of it, or to be engaged in the practice itself.  One can be engaged in meditation while they are on a walk, for example, or the time they have right before they sleep. Throughout the day, one can resist judging their thoughts, letting them flow until they are no more, or just be in a constant state of peace and self awareness. “You will have to understand one of the most fundamental things about meditation: that no technique leads to meditation. The old so-called techniques and the new scientific biofeedback techniques are the same as far as meditation is concerned. Meditation is not a byproduct of any technique. Dear Friends,
in this intense time of change and transformation it is of crucial importance, that all human beings identify their personal abilities in order to embody who they really are. We need to grow up as gifted spirits, while we are all going through constant frequency waves of opening to a deeper understanding. The time is NOW to become an activist in the shift of the human race into “The Golden Age of Aquarius” “The Golden Age of Humanity”! What does that mean?

If you are an Indigo Child, than you are born with abilities and strength, that not every human being has excess to. Your brain is literally differently wired than the brain of the human collective, in this moment of time. Past pains once healed, turn into your responsibilities in the bigger picture for planet earth. All indigo children are born with high sensitivity and high empathy, and many of them can be identified as Visionaries. Just like all Empath – Indigo Children are born to be self-healer, who by example shall lead humanity into self-empowerment, self-love and oneness.

6 Things Indigo Children experience different than the Human Collective:
You see a situation and know exactly what will happen next. Again and again in your life, you find yourself drown to acknowledge a random situation (on the street, in a restaurant, in your job) and feel immediately the outcome this situation will take.
There are two reasons why Indigo Children are having this increased inner clarity. Many Indigo Children are born as Visionaries and therefore are used to get a glimpse of the future in their everyday life, even that many of them are not aware that this is what is happening. The second reason is a natural insight they posses, when it comes to the divine / hermetic law of CAUSE and EFFECT. Indigos often sense immediately the kind of price a person will have to pay for a particular action, the price usually known by the name of Karma.
indigooooIndigo Children are insightful about the changes we need for the human collective, to become a Brotherhood of Men in Divine Action. Especially when it comes to parenting, governmental institutions, political actions, medical changes, educational development, earth preservation and changes in the mindset about authority figures; Indigo Children usually express, what the collective human race really needs.
You will find more Indigo Children in the “Legalize Marijuana Movement”, the “Permaculture Movement”, the “Natural Building Movement” and so on, than any other people. This makes them seem like “system busters” but it is actually their Divine Purpose in life. During growing up, this character trait can become really uncomfortable for the Indigo Child itself, school systems and the family.

You feel like you are dying from inside, if forced to lie about your true feelings. Indigo Children are emotionally highly sensitive, as they are the keeper of the emotional energy field for the Golden Age of Humanity. They are born with a 100% need for purity and authenticity in their emotional expression. They are very sensitive to the fact that already hiding or true feelings in relationships, is a form of lying and leads to contamination of the energy flow. In every human exchange, they have a deep desire for honesty, purity and authenticity, not easy in our emotionally dysfunctional society. It is a life saver for Indigo Children to set themselves free from any dogmas and limitation about their feelings, and start to acknowledge their colorful inside as their gift to the world – a gift worth learning how to share with others.

You feel music talking to you on a deep vibrational level. Light and Sound are the primary languages of the universe we are living in. Both can be sensed on a frequency level and for Indigo Children this vibrations often translate into direct teachings. Indigo Children are highly sensitive to the manifesting powers of music. If they are unaware and exposed to violent and in vibration negative music, it can lead to the creation of pain and suffering in their life. If aware that the songs reaching out to them, are their inner guidance, Indigo Children tend to follow their lead totally.
For example John Lennon, he was an Angelic Soul and an Indigo Child of an early wave. He could feel the collectives need for a much deeper connection with source, and had the chance to express himself through his art. As a successful musician in the flower power time, his lyrics express the deep desire for a humanity – capable of World Peace, Oneness and Unconditional Love, that is allowed to flow freely between a Brotherhood of Men. Indigo Children are born to hold the energy of the divine blueprint for the Golden Age of Aquarius. This inner blueprint has been seen in visions by a exorbitant increasing rate of Indigo Children. This sound information is translating as a hologram, that can be sensed as a blue spider-net like grid, spinning its embracing net around mother earth. It is connected to the memories of Lemuria, the perfect harmony between all living beings and the internal balanced between the powers of divinity and humanity, masculinity and femininity. Indigo Children have the tendency to compare all of their experiences to this original blueprint and will not rest, till their surrounding fits this pure, authentic picture of the Divine Will for the human race.

Indigo Children are often loners, outsider or bystander in social systems – as they love to study other people and are fine simple watching a scene. They can easily be misunderstood as anti-social, while they actually deeply love human beings. Just sometimes it is hard to understand human actions, when you are an Indigo Child. Unless they are with other Indigo Children, their tendency is to stay alone rather than being in a group where they feel lost and misunderstood, which would cause them to go within and detach. The better you know yourself and your sensitivity level, the better you can deal with social groups and their opinions. Having a clear sense of self and acceptance for what you truly need, will get you a long way navigating society until we shift into the Indigo World ;-).indogPlease note, this are only six examples to identify your self or others as Indigo Children – it is not a complete list! And, not one name given or expression found, can be absolute or is mend to limit the human ability to imagine even bigger, more beautiful and more shining versions of their own SELF!! They are barely given to help people identify their situation and step up into their own true power and existence. So understanding yourself as an Indigo Child is only helpful, if you adapt your life style and behavior to the needs of your true being– it is not mend to turn into the next illusion or dogma!

Mindfulness induces Measurable Changes in the Brain

Not too long ago, most of us thought that the brain we’re born with is static — that after a certain age, the neural circuitry cards we’re dealt are the only ones we can play long-term.
Fast-forward a decade or two, and we’re beginning to see the opposite: the brain is designed to adapt constantly. World-renowned neuroscientist Richie Davidson at the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, along with his colleagues, want us to know three things:

  1. you can train your brain to change,
  2. that the change is measurable, and
  3. new ways of thinking can change it for the better.

It’s hard to comprehend how this is possible. Practicing mindfulness is nothing like taking a pill, or another fix that acts quickly, entering our blood stream, crossing the Blood Brain Barrier if needed in order to produce an immediate sensation, or to dull one.
But just as we learn to play the piano through practice, the same goes for cultivating well-being and happiness. Davidson told Mindful last August that the brain keeps changing over its entire lifespan. And he thinks that’s very good news:

We can intentionally shape the direction of plasticity changes in our brain. By focusing on wholesome thoughts, for example, and directing our intentions in those ways, we can potentially influence the plasticity of our brains and shape them in ways that can be beneficial. That leads us to the inevitable conclusion that qualities like warmheartedness and well-being should best be regarded as skills.

Davidson adds that research on neuro-plasticity gives neuroscientists a framework for tracking meditation research. Based on recent research, I’ve chosen to share four ways your brain may change when you practice mindfulness:

  • Anterior Cingulate Cortex: Increased grey matter changes were noted in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), which is a structure located behind the brain’s frontal lobe. It has been associated with such functions as self-regulatory processes, including the ability to monitor attention conflicts, and allow for more cognitive flexibility.
  • Prefrontal Cortex: Increased grey matter density was also found in areas of the prefrontal lobe, which are primarily responsible for executive functioning such as planning, problem solving, and emotion regulation.
  • Hippocampus: Increased cortical thickness in the hippocampus has also been noted. The hippocampus is the part of the limbic system that governs learning and memory, and is extraordinarily susceptible to stress and stress-related disorders like depression or PTSD.

Decreased Amygdala Size

Studies have shown that the amygdala, known as our brain’s “fight or flight” center and the seat of our fearful and anxious emotions, decreases in brain cell volume after mindfulness practice.

Diminished or enhanced functionality in certain networks/connections

Not only does the amygdala shrink post mindfulness practice, but the functional connections between the amygdala and the pre-frontal cortex are weakened. This allows for less reactivity, and also paves the way for connections between areas associated with higher order brain functions to be strengthened (i.e. attention, concentration, etc.).

Mindfulness practice has been implicated in the decreased activation and the stilling of our Default Mode Network (DMN), which is also sometimes referred to as our wandering “Monkey Minds.” The DMN is active when our minds are directionless as it goes from thought to thought, a response that is sometimes likened to rumination and not always adaptive with regards to overall happiness.
The impact that mindfulness exerts on our brain is borne from routine: a slow, steady, and consistent reckoning of our realities, and the ability to take a step back, become more aware, more accepting, less judgmental, and less reactive. Just as playing the piano over and over again over time strengthens and supports brain networks involved with playing music, mindfulness over time can make the brain, and thus, us, more efficient regulators, with a penchant for pausing to respond to our worlds instead of mindlessly reacting.

Reaching puberty is a rite of passage that we’ve all been through, but children nowadays are reaching it earlier than ever before — a trend that has both health experts and parents alarmed.

Precocious puberty, which is the appearance of secondary sex characteristics like pubic hair or breast growth before age 8, or the onset of menarche before age 9, impacts at least 1 in 5,000 U.S. children, and the rate is on the rise.1
Even in the last three decades, children (particularly girls) are maturing at younger and younger ages (precocious puberty is 10 times more common in girls than in boys).

PUBERTY, ONCE THE NORM AT AGE 15, NOW OCCURRING IN 7-, 8- AND 9-YEAR-OLDS

In the 19th century the onset of menstruation occurred around the age of 15. Now the average age of the first period, or menarche, is around 12. The time during and before puberty is one of rapid development and change, which is why even months matter when it comes to first menstruation. Before menstruation, girls will show beginning signs of development, such as breast “budding” and growth of pubic hair.
These signs are now becoming unsettlingly common among 7-, 8- and 9-year-old girls, to the extent that many health care providers, rather than labeling these children with a diagnosis that something is wrong, have simply changed the definition of what’s normal… but is it really “normal” for girls to mature at such a young age?
There are more questions than answers in the case of precocious puberty, but what is certain is that girls are developing earlier than they have even 10, 20 or 30 years ago.
One study in the journal Pediatrics revealed that by age 7, 10 percent of white girls, 23 percent of black girls, 15 percent of Hispanic girls and 2 percent of Asian girls had started developing breasts, with researchers noting:2

“The proportion of girls who had breast development at ages 7 and 8 years, particularly among white girls, is greater than that reported from studies of girls who were born 10 to 30 years earlier.”

Early puberty can set the stage for emotional and behavioral problems, and is linked to lower self-esteem, depression, eating disorders, alcohol use, earlier loss of virginity, more sexual partners and increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases. There is also evidence that suggests these girls are at increased risk of diabetes, heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases, as well as cancer, later in life.

bruENVIRONMENTAL CHEMICALS A LIKELY FACTOR

Scientists have brought forth a number of potential explanations for the rising rates of early puberty, but one that deserves special attention is environmental chemicals, and particularly estrogen-mimicking, “gender-bending” chemicals that easily leach out of the products that contain them, contaminating everything they touch, including food and beverages.
As the featured New York Times article reported:
” …animal studies show that the exposure to some environmental chemicals can cause bodies to mature early. Of particular concern are endocrine-disrupters, like “xeno-estrogens” or estrogen mimics. These compounds behave like steroid hormones and can alter puberty timing.

For obvious ethical reasons, scientists cannot perform controlled studies proving the direct impact of these chemicals on children, so researchers instead look for so-called “natural experiments,” one of which occurred in 1973 in Michigan, when cattle were accidentally fed grain contaminated with an estrogen-mimicking chemical, the flame retardant PBB.
The daughters born to the pregnant women who ate the PBB-laced meat and drank the PBB-laced milk started menstruating significantly earlier than their peers.”

This is an extreme case, but the truth is we are all part of a “secret experiment” of sorts, because hormone-disrupting chemicals are all around us. Bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial petrochemical that acts as a synthetic estrogen, is found in our plastics and our tin can linings, in dental sealants and on cash-register receipts. Laboratory tests commissioned by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) detected BPA in the umbilical cord blood of 90 percent of newborn infants tested — along with more than 230 other chemicals. As written in the New York Times:
“One concern, among parents and researchers, is the effect of simultaneous exposures to many estrogen-mimics, including the compound BPA, which is ubiquitous.”

3095257_IJPE2011-184502.004No one knows what happens when a developing fetus or young child is exposed to hundreds of chemicals, many of which mimic your body’s natural hormones and can trigger major changes in your body even as an adult, let along during the most rapid and vulnerable periods of development (in utero and as a young child).
BPA is, unfortunately, but one example. Others include phthalates, a group of industrial chemicals used to make plastics like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) more flexible and resilient. They’re also one of the most pervasive of the endocrine disrupters, found in everything from processed food packaging and shower curtains to detergents, toys and beauty products like nail polish, hair spray, shampoo, deodorants, and fragrances.
Other environmental chemicals like PCBs and DDE (a breakdown product of the pesticide DDT) may also be associated with early sexual development in girls. Both DDE and PCBs are known to mimic, or interfere with, sex hormones.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), found in non-stick cookware, also falls into this dangerous category, as does fluoride, which is added to the majority of public water supplies in the United States. Research showed that animals treated with fluoride had lower levels of circulating melatonin, as reflected by reduced levels of melatonin metabolites in the animals’ urine. This reduced level of circulating melatonin was accompanied — as might be expected — by an earlier onset of puberty in the fluoride-treated female animals.

 

THESE CHEMICALS ALSO INCREASE YOUR RISK OF CANCER AND HEART DISEASE

If a chemical is capable of influencing the rate of your reproductive development, it stands to reason that it would be capable of influencing other hormone-sensitive growth processes as well, and this is indeed the case.
For instance, new research has detected the presence of paraben esters in 99 percent of breast cancer tissues sampled.3 Parabens are chemicals with estrogen-like properties, and estrogen is one of the hormones involved in not only puberty but also the development of breast cancer. They are widely used in household products such as:

Recent research has also confirmed the existence of a previously unknown class of cancer-causing estrogen-mimicking compounds: metals. Yes, a broad range of metals have been shown to act as “metalloestrogens” with the potential to add to the estrogenic burden of the human body, thereby increasing the risk of breast cancer and also possibly early puberty. The following metals, which are added to thousands of consumer products, including vaccines, have been identified as being capable of binding to cellular estrogen receptors and then mimicking the actions of physiological estrogens:4puberty chart 2

Data from a long-running British health survey, meanwhile, has shown that if you have high levels of the chemical BPA in your urine, you may be at an increased risk of heart disease. Some of the greatest concern surrounds early-life, in utero exposure to BPA, which can lead to chromosomal errors in your developing fetus, causing spontaneous miscarriages and genetic damage. But evidence is also very strong showing these chemicals are influencing adults and children, too, and leading to decreased sperm quality, early puberty, stimulation of mammary gland development, disrupted reproductive cycles and ovarian dysfunction, obesity, cancer and heart disease, among numerous other health problems.

 

154433f95e3f4776a2cb1301980ab63bAVOIDING HORMONE-DISRUPTING SUBSTANCES IS CRUCIAL FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS ALIKE

While young girls may show obvious signs of exposure to hormone-disrupting substances via early puberty, other signals are more insidious and may not show up until a disease is already present. Here are 11 measures you can implement right away to help protect yourself and your children from common toxic substances that could cause precocious puberty and other long-term health problems:
1. As much as possible, buy and eat organic produce and free-range, organic meats to reduce your exposure to added hormones, pesticides and fertilizers. Also avoid milk and other dairy products that contain the genetically engineered recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH or rBST)
2. Eat mostly raw, fresh foods. Processed, prepackaged foods (of all kinds) are a major source of soy and chemicals such as BPA and phthalates.
3. Store your food and beverages in glass rather than plastic, and avoid using plastic wrap and canned foods (which are often lined with BPA-containing liners).
4. Use glass baby bottles and BPA-free sippy cups for your little ones.
5. Make sure your baby’s toys are BPA-free, such as pacifiers, teething rings and anything your child may be prone to suck on.
6. Only use natural cleaning products in your home to avoid phosphates.
7. Switch over to natural brands of toiletries such as shampoo, toothpaste, antiperspirants and cosmetics. The Environmental Working Group has a great safety guide to help you find personal care products that are free of phthalates, parabens and other potentially dangerous chemicals.
8. Avoid using artificial air fresheners, dryer sheets, fabric softeners or other synthetic fragrances, many of which can also disrupt your hormone balance.
9. Replace your non-stick pots and pans with ceramic or glass cookware.
10. When redoing your home, look for “green,” toxin-free alternatives in lieu of regular paint and vinyl floor coverings.
11. Replace your vinyl shower curtain with one made of fabric.
12. Avoid non-fermented soy, especially if you’re pregnant and in infant formula.

Theo Colburn’s book Our Stolen Future is a great source for further investigation as it identifies the numerous ways in which environmental pollutants are disrupting human reproductive patterns. I believe it is one of the best resources on this topic and highly recommend it.

 

vitamind-778540VITAMIN D ALSO LINKED TO EARLY PUBERTY

It has been suggested that girls who live closer to the equator start puberty at a later age than girls who live in Northern regions. Since this indicates a potential connection with sun exposure, researchers decided to investigate whether vitamin D was, in fact, related. Upon measuring vitamin D levels in 242 girls aged 5-12, researchers from the University of Michigan School of Public Health found that those who were deficient were twice as likely to start menstruation during the study period as those with higher levels.5

Specifically, among the vitamin-D-deficient girls, 57 percent started their period during the study, compared to 23 percent with adequate vitamin D. However, researchers defined adequate vitamin D as ≥ 30 ng/mL, which is actually still a deficiency state! For optimal health, vitamin D levels should be a minimum of 50 ng/mL, which means the number of vitamin-D-deficient girls with early puberty was probably much higher than the study reported.

The earlier you enter puberty, the longer you’re exposed to elevated levels of the female hormone estrogen, which is a risk factor for certain cancers such as breast cancer. This has been the primary “link” between early puberty and cancer that has been explored, but it’s important to understand that vitamin D deficiency is also a major risk factor for cancer, heart disease and many other diseases. So it could be that some of the increased risks that come from early puberty are linked to low vitamin D levels.

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT OBESITY, STRESS AND EXERCISE

Obesity (which exposes girls to more estrogen because estrogen is both stored and produced in fat tissue) is another likely factor in early puberty. The New York Times reported:
“As Robert Lustig, a professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco’s Benioff Children’s Hospital, explains, fatter girls have higher levels of the hormone leptin, which can lead to early puberty, which leads to higher estrogen levels, which leads to greater insulin resistance, causing girls to have yet more fat tissue, more leptin and more estrogen, the cycle feeding on itself, until their bodies physically mature.”
